Meet The Team
Cassandra Sternar (B.HSc. MPodPrac. MAPodA)
Cassandra is the founder and principal podiatrist at Victorian Foot Clinic.
Cassandra graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science and Masters of Podiatric Practice from La Trobe University in 2014. She completed her clinical training at the Alfred Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and IPC Health Community Health Centre, allowing her to work with a diverse range of patients in both the acute and sub acute health care settings. Cassandra's clinical placements allowed her to develop podiatric skills in the areas of diabetic foot care, wound care, paediatrics, charcot management, post amputation management, surgery, local anaesthesia, dermatology, podiatric pharmacology and microbiology, musculoskeletal injuries, imaging, orthotic therapy and footwear prescription.
Cassandra currently works in her private practice part time, and also continues to work in the public health care system. She facilitates a High Risk Foot Clinic at a Melbourne based community health centre, where she provides wound care, post amputation and Charcot management as part of a multidisciplinary team. She also delivers paediatric care in the sub acute setting and is involved in the development and implementation of quality projects and initiatives to help improve the delivery of care to her patients.
In 2018, Cassandra undertook a post graduate placement at Western Health to further develop her podiatry skills in the acute setting. She was then successful at obtaining a seconded position as a podiatrist for the Diabetes Foot Service. Having thoroughly enjoyed working with patients in an inpatient setting; Cassandra now also offers podiatric care at Melbourne Private Hospital. Cassandra also receives referrals from the Royal Melbourne Hospital Diabetes Foot Unit to provide follow up podiatry care upon discharge from this clinic.
Cassandra regularly undertakes clinical supervision of podiatry students during their public health placements, and enjoys teaching. She delivers community education sessions for those recently diagnosed with diabetes, so that they are aware of the implications that diabetes can have on foot health. Cassandra sees these group sessions as an opportunity to provide education on how to prevent foot complications associated with diabetes, neuropathy or poor circulation through healthy foot habits and regular screening.
Cassandra has a special interest in ingrown toenail surgery, diabetic wound care, Foot Mobilisation Therapy and Neurovascular assessments; and is certified in Dry Needling.
